Kudos to Dr. Bruce Blank of St. Clairesville, OH for his longterm efforts to make Halloween a happy celebration for kids battling diabetes.
According to an article in the Times Leader (10/24/12) written by Kayla Van Dyne, the party gives kids who cannot eat the candy they collect during Trick or Treat activities a chance to have one more good time together, exchange their candy for healthy food while their parents become more active in a growing network of people who care for the kids. “Kids as well as the parents love the party and the camaraderie.” Dr. Blank commented. Dr. Blank began the event 15 years ago so that diabetic children can go ahead with traditional Halloween fun.
The article and photos were featured in the October 24, 2012 issue of PM News which includes a photo of Dr. Blank in Halloween costume in anticipation of this year’s party.
Thank you, Dr. Blank for your faithful support of the children in your community over the years.
